#53 this was my brother, Joe's truck for almost 15 years. He passed away in November 2022 from Legionnaires Disease contracted at some truck stop where he took a shower. He arrived home on a weekend; Monday was admitted to the hospital and the following Sunday he was deceased.
Many thanks to the staff the Delaware health system for their excellent care of my brother and their empathy towards the many family members who visited. You made an extremely painful situation a little less overwhelming.
He worked at AMH Bulk for a very long time but he was their driver of the year 14 years in a row! During harvest season, he transported freshly harvested veg to canning plants. The rest of the year, he went where ever the loads took him. He had many great stories of the road; I am sorry I didn't collect most of them but I do have one....
I called him one day to ask about a trailer - at the end of the conversation, I asked him where he was and he said 'I'm in prison" - that was a screetch heard all over the warehouse!! He just laughed and explained this particular prison had a canning plant where the prisioners could work and he was delivering ... Peas I think or string beans.
I also remember him being extremely out of sorts one time when he was crossing the US/Canadian border and had his truck search. Apparently searching doesn't require cleaning up the mess you made an they tore his bunk apart - AND HE HAD JUST MADE HIS BED! So much righteous indignation!!
He was a true professional truck driver and is very much missed by his many family, friends, coworkers and those he met on the road.
