Are you really the eldest of eight?
--Yes! I have one sister and 6 brothers. All them are or have been married except me and all of them have children except me - one of them is actually a grandfather, too! My parents are still married to eachother and this year will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Is your dad still a professional driver? Your brothers, too?
--My dad is retired but always has a project at the ready or an adventure to be had, but my brother, Mark, is still driving as are a couple of good friends. I like to mine information from all my sources! Unfortunately, my brother, Joe, passed away in November; he drove for AMH in Seaford, DE.
You say you are an artist but I haven't seen anything new in a while - what's the scoop?
--Since moving to Schuylkill Haven (and then to Hamburg) I have suffered severe depression and creative block and have only completed 6 pieces -I have posted photos of two of the pieces in blog posts. As soon as I get back on track - this will be the first place to see the new work.
I actually received my first commission in 2020 and my second in 2021. I'm happy to say they were a great success and I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity!
Who are your artistic inspirations?
--I am a huge Frida Kahlo fan and she deeply influences my work. I am also a huge fan if Maxfield Parrish, John William Waterhouse, and Maurice Sendak. However - I have discovered some fantastic artists on Instagram that have really inspired me! (TheWickedGriffin, Mary Syring, and Cabinet of Curious Clay, plus - favorites I've admired for a long time SyntheticShadows and Leah Neuhauser. You can find all these over on the referrals page or on Instagram!
Do you like living - wherever it is you live?
--Of course! Wouldn't be here if I didn't. Schuylkill County/Pottsville is to the north - home of the famous Yuengling Brewery and Cressona. To the south is Berks County/Reading. West is Lebannon County and east is Lehigh County/Allentown. The Appalachian Mountains, home of the Appalachian Trail, run through it all between Schuykill & Berks counties and pushing right into Lehigh County.
I love those blue tinted mountains and while not impressive in height, they are tall enough to create some very interesting micro climates. There is also this feeling of home knowing that on either side of the range, I'm either at my home, or at the homes of family and friends.
Do you have any other hobbies then your art work or road trips?
--Actually yes. I have studied many books about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic and while that same strain of the virus exists today, it behaved very different 100 years ago. Also - how the survivors behaved after the fact - what I call 'the conspiracy of forgetting' is very fascinating. I am also a fan of art, the history of ancient Egypt (history in general) and Ken Burns documentaries. I am also a true crime fan and 'Murderino' see My Favorite Murder podcast (among others)!
